RYA qualifications are highly regarded and emulated worldwide in both the
recreational and commercial spheres of boating.

RYA
POWERBOAT LEVEL 1 COURSE - Duration 1 day - Course Fee:
275 Euros
This is a 1 day course which provides a practical and theoretical introduction
to boat handling and safety in powerboats. No previous experience is required.
The minimum age for candidates is 12 years, and those under the age of 16 years
will be issued with an endorsed certificate. |

RYA POWERBOAT LEVEL 2 COURSE
(Coastal) - Duration 2 days - Course Fee: 450 Euros
A 2 day course, in both theory and practical sessions, which teaches boat
handling and seamanship in powerboats. This is a more in-depth course and
provides the student with the knowledge for self-sufficient powerboating at a
basic level. Whilst no previous experience is necessary, this course may be
preceded by Level 1. The minimum age for candidates is 12 years, and those under
the age of 16 years will be issued with an endorsed certificate.Note: Level 2
is also a pre-requisite for the ICC (International Certificate of Competence),
for which a separate application can be made to the RYA upon successful completion of the
course. |

RYA
INTERMEDIATE POWERBOAT COURSE - Duration 2 days - Course
Fee: 450 Euros
This is a 2 day course which covers
the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters
using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques. A good
standard of theory is required before commencing this course. It is
recommended that candidates have undertaken the Level 2 Course (coastal) and are
in possession of a valid First Aid Certificate and VHF Radio Operators
Certificate. The minimum age for candidates is 16 years. |

RYA ADVANCED POWERBOAT COURSE
- Duration 2 days and 1 night - Course Fee: 550 Euros
This course is carried out over
2 days, including a night passage, and is designed for leisure and professional
boaters wishing to undertake more adventurous trips in small powerboats. It will
provide you with the ability to plan and execute coastal passages, including the
return to a familiar port by night. As this is a more demanding course, it is
recommended that candidates have a knowledge of navigation and chartwork to the
level of RYA Day Skipper Shorebased certificate, have undertaken the
Intermediate Powerboat Course, and are in possession of a valid First Aid
Certificate and VHF Radio Operators Certificate. The minimum age for candidates is
17 years. |

INTERNATIONAL
CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE (ICC) - Duration half a day
Island Watersports is recognised by
the RYA as a training centre to carry out the test for the International
Certificate of Competence (coastal and power categories). The test comprises practical and theory elements, and can either be carried out in our own
craft (7.5 metre RIB) or your own craft (subject to satisfying certain
criteria).
Cost: 225 Euros
(carried out in the training centre RIB)
175 Euros
(carried out in a boat owned by the candidate)

Please note
that only British citizens or UK residents are eligible to apply for the ICC. A maximum
of 3 candidates will be catered for on each course.
All RYA course fees are inclusive of
G20/96 powerboat logbook and relevant certificate.

THE MARINE
RADIO SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE - Duration 1 day -
Course Fee: 150 Euros
The Short Range
Certificate (SRC) is the radio operator qualification which
authorises the holder to operate a VHF Radiotelephone fitted with
Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on board any British vessel which is
voluntarily fitted with radio equipment. If you own a marine radio,
whether a handheld or fixed set, you are required by law to hold an
operator's licence. Learn the procedures for operation and gain the
qualification on this one day examined course. No pre-course
knowledge or experience is required. The course fee is inclusive of
the exam. |

BASIC NAVIGATION AND SAFETY COURSE – Duration 2 days – Course
Fee: 300 Euros
This course is an integral part of the overall cruising scheme
range of courses run by the RYA and is an essential building
block of knowledge for those wishing to progress to the RYA
practical courses. The aim of the course is to provide an
introduction to the basic skills required before taking a small
boat to sea, or taking an active part in running a boat.
Subjects covered include charts, buoyage, navigation, safety,
anchoring, tides, electronic navigation, rules of the road (IRPCS),
weather forecasts, pilotage and passage planning. Although this
is a 2 days course, the duration can be split into a number of
hourly modules to suit the student’s needs.
